Kipruto won the men’s 3,000m steeplechase gold medal in Rio with an Olympic record time.
The 21-year-old finished in eight minutes 3.28 seconds to edge American Evan Jager into silver.
Defending champion Ezekiel Kemboi, 34, crossed in third but was disqualified for stepping outside of the track, meaning France’s Mahiedine Mekhissi-Benabbad took bronze.
Kenya has won every men’s steeplechase gold since the 1984 Los Angeles Games.
The previous Olympic record of 8:05.51, set by another Kenyan Julius Kariuki, had stood for 28 years.
Jager became the first American to win a steeplechase medal since the same LA Games, where Brian Diemer took bronze.
