Enugu Unveils Emergency Call Centres
The Enugu State Gov
ernment has reintroduced Emergency Call and Response Centres as part of efforts to check security breaches in the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Dr Godwin Udeuhele, disclosed this on Thursday in Enugu while addressing newsmen on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting.
Udeuhele said government had reactivated and put to use the abandoned Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) call centres hitherto established for all the 17 local government areas in the state at the cost of N10 million.
“Those call centres were established in anticipation of certain security challenges, but they were abandoned and became redundant as they were not much security breaches at that time.
“Under the current circumstances occasioned by clashes between herdsmen and host communities, kidnapping and other social vices seriously increasing, there is need to reactivate them,” he said.
The commissioner said that would assist those living in the hinterland to volunteer valuable security tips that would help security agencies to do their job.
“It may be difficult at the moment to establish the centres in all the 482 communities of the state, that is why we are starting with the local government level,” he said.
