DPOs Warn Lagos Youth Against Crime
The Divisional Police
Officers (DPOs) in Oshodi-Isolo Area of Lagos State on Saturday, warned the youth not to engage in crime and criminality under the guise of unemployment.
The DPO of Shogunle Division, CSP Lucy Abibo and his counterpart from Akinpelu Division, CSP Jimoh Aliu, gave the warning at a graduation ceremony of free computer trainees.
The training was organised by a Lagos lawmaker, Mr Olusola Sokunle.
Our correspondent reports that, Sokunle, a PDP lawmaker at the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Oshodi Isolo Constituency I, trained 130 students from his free Computer Training Institute.
Abibo, who was represented by Insp. Peter Okem enjoined the graduates not to indulge in crime under the guise of unemployment.
She said that anything against the law was criminal, urging all youths in the area to stay clear of crimes because they would be caught.
“Crimes are acts of breaking the rules of the state. A crime attracts punishment. Unemployment does not give you licence to engage in crimes.
“Crime is inimical to the society. If you don’t want punishment, don’t involve yourself in criminal activities and don’t be lured into it.
“This computer training should not be used in a negative way, be positive and avoid all cyber crimes because you will be caught,” she warned .
She said all rapists, occults, armed robbers, drug pushers, would be punished both by the law of the land and God.
According to her, God is the Chief Security Officer of the world, saying that everybody should be security conscious.
In his words, Aliu, who was represented by Insp. Adah Egboh, described crime as anything that generally affects the interest of a community.
He said, “The law does not know the face of anyone, it deals with offenders accordingly. If you commit crime you are gone. You will be languishing in detention.
“I advise you to stay away from cyber crimes. I want to also advise parents to watch and to warn their sons and daughters against crime.
“Do not cover crime under your umbrella because you will not be guiltless if the crime is detected.”
Aliu, who urged youths to always expose criminal activities, assured informants of protection.
Earlier, Sokunle said that his passion to rebrand youths in the area motivated him to establish the institute to give necessary skills to the teeming youths.
According to him, he always feels unhappy whenever people attribute hooliganisms and violence with Oshodi youths.
The lawmaker said he was committed to use his position to empower the people, most especially the youths who are vulnerable in the constituency.
He said, “I will continue to use education to rebuild the youths of Oshodi and also to position them in the right direction.
“I will continue to do my best in developing our youths because they are both leaders of today and tomorrow.
“An investment in the youths is an investment in the future of the nation,” the lawmaker said
The event had in attendance many party chieftains, religious leaders, parents among others.
