Community Policing Helps To Curb Kidnapping – CP

The Commissioner of Police
in Imo, Mr Taiwo Lakanu, has said that community policing helped in subduing kidnapers in the state.
Lakanu told newsmen in Owerri that in the last three months, there had not been any record of kidnapping in the state and pointed out that community policing helped to achieve the feat.
“It is a known fact that most of the kidnapers and cultists have their base in the communities and only come to the city to carry out their operations.
“We have decided to carry war to the base of these kidnapers and they have been subdued,” he said.
The commissioner also commended the efforts of other security agencies in combating crimes in the state.
“We have partnered well with other security agencies to ensure internal security in Imo and I assure the people that there will be no hiding place for kidnapers,” he said.
He said that no kidnaper could carry out a successful operation in the state, but urged youths to engage in other meaningful jobs than to be endangering their lives.
The commissioner also promised a stronger synergy with the police-community relations committees and the media.
“We want a stronger partnership with PCRC members, traditional rulers and the media to effectively checkmate crime,’’ he said.
Lakanu and the Deputy Governor of Imo, Mr Eze Madumere, recently led a team to where buildings belonging to some kidnapers were demolished in the state.
