Anambra:Ex-CP Decries Leadership Tussles In Anambra
The Chairman of
Anambra State Vigilance Supervisory Committee, Mr Ikechukwu Aduba, said leadership tussles in many communities in Anambra have been adversely affecting effective rural policing.
Aduba told newsmen in Awka that these wranglings had been hindering policing in many of the affected communities.
“Some communities have been in crisis over installation of traditional rulers as well as President-General of those communities’’.
According to him, such actions had adversely impacted on the security of lives and property, a priority project to Governor Willie Obiano’s government.
He said that some Anambra Vigilance Group (AVG) operatives had been unable to receive their proper remunerations because of the squabbles among the leadership within communities.
Aduba, a retired Police Commissioner, noted that illiteracy among the operatives had also made it difficult for them to be able to correctly fill out relevant forms used in processing their entitlements.
“Of the 3,540 estimated strength of the operatives 3,199 were paid last month’’.
He called on communities, corporate organisations and philanthropists to assist AVG rather than leave the state government to shoulder the responsibility of ensuring peace.
Aduba enjoined the people to remain calm over the current austere times and continue to be law abiding citizens of the state.
He vowed to continue to work toward proffering lasting solution to leadership tussles in Anambra communities.
