20 Police Officers In Soup For Bribery

missioner of Police, Mr. Francis Mobalaji Odesanya, has said that about 20 police officers in the State police command have been arrested for various corrupt practices.
CP Odesanya disclosed this while answering questions from journalists in Port Harcourt, recently and added that the policemen arrested would be sanctioned in accordance with the rule of police engagement.
“They are going to be thoroughly investigated,  sanctioned and I know  that my predecessors did the same. The IGP has a monitoring  team that moves round. The  AIG has a monitoring team. We are doing our best to put an end to all these”.
According to him, the order on the stop of road block check points is still in force adding that the police have been  directed to conduct stop and  search of all vehicles in the state.
“We do not have road blocks  in Rivers State, but Section 27 of the Police Act gives us the power to stop and search any time and at any point,” he stated.
He used the opportunity to assure the riverine communities  in the  state that the marine  police unit was being strengthened  in order to curtail the excesses of  sea piracy menace and added that he will  collaborate with the Nigerian  Navy in that direction.
The police boss urged the people of the state to continue to support the police by giving them useful and timely information to fight crimes and other criminalities in the state.
