13-Year-Old Boy In Court For Alleged Defilement

A 13-year-old boy, who
allegedly defiled a 9-year-old girl was last Friday arraigned in a Surulere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.
The accused, who resides in Ijegun area of Lagos State, is facing a charge of rape.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Christopher Okoliko, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 20, at about 6.00p.m. in Ajegun, Lagos.
He said that the parents of the accused and the parents of the victim are neighbours, who have lived in the same compound for years.
“The girl was with her friends, but left to meet the boy in an uncompleted building near their compound to help her with an English assignment.
“When she got home, she told her parents that the boy forced himself on her and they reported the matter to the police.
The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Magistrate, Mrs M.I. Dan-Oni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate ordered that one of the sureties must be a parent to the accused and the other must be gainfully employed
The case was adjourned till September 20 for mention.
