Seven In Prison For Alleged Murder
An Enugu High Court on
Monday remanded seven murder suspects, including a septuagenarian, in prison custody till Sept. 26 for their counsel to file their bail applications.
The accused persons are Denis Ozongwu, Emeka Offor, Uchechukwu Ude, Thomas Ugwu, Nkem Ezechina Ugwu, Daniel Ugwu and a septuagenarian, D.C. Ugwu.
They were arrested in December 2015 following the murder of a prominent lawyer, Ejimofor Ozongwu, over a land dispute in Okwojo-Ngwo, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The accused persons had earlier pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and murder.
Their bail application was hindered by an application to amend the charges by the prosecution counsel, Mrs Rosa Okafor.
Okafor told the court that 22 witnesses would testify against them and prayed the court for time to file her amendments.
Justice Cyprian Ajah adjourned the matter till Sept. 26.
