The Rivers State Government has hinted that it may consider the demolition of makeshift houses within Port Harcourt soon.
The state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, who said this during a familiarisation visit to the management of Nigeria Agip Oil Company in Port Harcourt, added that most makeshift houses serve as hideouts for criminals in the state.
Wike also directed the management of the Nigeria Agip Oil Company to provide electricity and good road networks to its host community Mgbushimini.
Meanwhile, the Obio/Akpor Caretaker Committee Chairman, Collins Onuwor, has called on people in the area to support the government’s effort to rid the state of cultists and criminal elements.
Onuwor made the call when the Bishop of Evo Diocese of the Anglican Church Bishop Innocent Ordu paid him a courtesy visit at the council secretariat.
The Obio/Akpor CTC boss called on unrepentant cultists in the area to be remorseful and embrace Governor Nyesom Wike amnesty offer.
Speaking, the Bishop of Evo Diocese of the Anglican Church, Bishop Innocent Ordu, commended the government effort to dislodge criminality and cultism.
Ordu said its upcoming diocesan Synod of Evo would treat issues affecting development of the state and the nation.
