The Rivers State Government has expressed concern over the low growth indication and dwindling trend in the nation’s economy, noting that the citizenry was yet to feel the impact of the Federal Government’s economic policies.
Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Dr. Austin Tam-George, raised the concern in his office during a courtesy call by the management of the Nigeria Stock Exchange, in Rivers State, led by the Branch Manager, Ugochi Inko-Tariah.
Tam-George stated that national economic growth was dismal as there was no clear sense of direction in Federal Government’s economic policies.
He said the increasing decline in the value of the naira, as the worse performing currency and the general worrisome state of the economy, were ominous signs that must be reversed to restore public confidence in governance and put the country on the path of economic growth among the comity of nations.
Tam-George charged the Nigerian Stock Exchange to be proactive in its duties of stimulating business opportunities to boost the health of the economy, adding that windows of investment were open in Rivers State for exploration.
He said the Rivers State Government was redefining public administration in the state through the prudent management of limited resources to address critical development challenges such as the provision of social infrastructure and poverty eradication.
Tam-George disclosed that, 35,000 persons recently benefitted from N2billion micro credit loan scheme in Rivers State, while the Governor Nyesom Wike-led administration has constructed over 180kilometres of roads within one year in office.
In her remarks, the Branch Manager of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) in Rivers State, Ugochi Inko-Tariah said the Federal Government’s agency was ready to partner with the Rivers State Government in the promotion of business investment activities and financial literacy programmes in the state.
