Christian Weli has
insisted that Rivers United will finish top of the Nigeria Professional Football League table this season.
The Pride of Rivers State slipped to their ninth loss of the season in Makurdi, with a solitary strike from Abdulrahman Bashir leaving Stanley Eguma’s side third on the log.
“It was an important game in Makurdi, but not decisive,” Weli told newsmen.
“We are saddened by the loss, but the championship is long. Fortunately, Wikki Tourists and Rangers drew last weekend so the teams at the top are very close.
“Everything is still in our own hands, we’ll still have to play some tough games in the league. Let’s see what will happen at the end of the day.”
Rivers United continues their Nigeria Professional Football League campaign on Sunday when they face Niger Tornadoes at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.
