The Rivers State Director of National Orientation Agency, Mr. Oliver Wolugbom has called on all political parties, candidates vying for legislative positions and their supporters during the forthcoming rerun elections for the eight (8) local government areas of the state to be law-abiding and embrace peace.
The NOA boss made the call following the rescheduling of the rerun elections to 30th July, 2016, by the Independent National electoral Commission (INEC).
Wolugbom advised politicians and party candidates to allow the will of the people to prevail, and urged the parties to canvass for votes from the electorate in a peaceful manner as the people will finally decide who to represent them.
He advised them to ensure that desperation to win at all cost is avoided.
The NOA boss also called on INEC, adhoc staff, security agencies and all those in charge of the conduct of the rerun elections to play by the rules.
Speaking further, Wolugbom expressed regrets that most states have settled down for governance except Rivers State, stating that the inconclusive elections in the State have continued to short-change the state of equitable representation at the state House of Assembly and the National Assembly.
The state director emphasised that the cooperation of both politicians and the people was vital to achieve lasting peace in the state, advising that the interest of the state and the nation should be placed above personal and partisan interests.
