Rivers Angels Coach Savours 3-0 Victory …Says It Is Not An Easy One

ers Angels FC of Port Harcourt, Edwin Okon has said that his team’s 3-0 victory over visiting Delta Queens of Asaba was not an easy one.
Okon made the statement shortly after the Week Seven (7) match of the Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) played between the Angels and Queens at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.
He said he was happy because of the three points secured by his team at the match, noting that it was not an easy job to do against a strong side like Delta Queens.
“I am a happy man because three points, three goals is not an easy job against a team like Delta. A little pep talk made the girls realize there was something at stake,” Okon said.
“We had to raise our game in the second half because the match is not won until you bury the ball inside the net,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mercy Amanze, Chioma Wogu and glory Iroka were all on the score sheet as champions, Rivers Angels inflicted the 3-0 defeat over the visitors to remain group leaders.
The visitors thought they had taken the lead in the 5th minute through close-range strike from Godwin Maureen but the centre referee ruled it out for an offside.
Both teams continued to knock on the door with Delta side having most of the ball in the first half.
On resumption to the second half, mercy Amanze pounced on a rebound after a few seconds of the restart to break the deadlock for the Edwin Okon led side.
With the 46th minute goal, from an Ikehua Oghene Brume’s strike to ensure Angels maintained their lead.
Chioma Wogu added a second in the 71st minute from yet another rebound to compound more woes on the visitors.
In the 90th minute, Iroka sent in a superb strike from outside the box to wrap things up for the champions.
With the win, Rivers Angels FC extend the lead in group B to 13 points from seven matches and will next take on Taraba Queens on July 9.
