The Kwara State
Broadcasting Corporation will collaborate with the state chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in promoting sports, an official has assured.
The corporation’s General Manager, Abdullateef Adedeji, gave the assurance when he received the newly-elected Kwara SWAN Executive Committee, led by its Chairman, Abdulwaheed Bibire.
Adedeji who identified sports as a capital intensive but money-spinning venture called for support from all stakeholders in developing sports at all levels.
“We appreciate Kwara SWAN’s acknowledgment of the role of Radio Kwara in promoting sports in the state, and we promise to support the new executive committee in making it succeed,’’ he said.
Speaking earlier, the State Chairman of SWAN had identified Radio Kwara as a strategic partner in sports promotion in the state.
Bibire commended the General Manager and management team of Radio Kwara for their support to SWAN and sports development in the state.
“We urge individuals and corporate organisations to invest heavily in sports to sustain the state’s reputation in sporting events in the country,’’ he said.
During a similar visit to the State Printing and Publishing Corporation, the corporation’s General Manager, AbdulRazaq
Adebayo, urged sports writers in the state to focus attention on grassroots sports development.
Adebayo, whose corporation publishes The Herald Newspapers, said this would greatly help in discovering and promoting hidden talents.
While reminding sports writers of the need to promote all sports events, he promised to support the new executive committee in achieving its laudable programmes.
“I hope that with the calibre of members in the Kwara SWAN executive committee, the state’s chapter of the association will be turned around in no distant time,’’ Adebayo said.
The General Manager also commended Kwara SWAN for the successful hosting of the just-concluded Triennial Delegates Congress of the association.
While making his remarks, the State SWAN Chairman disclosed that the new leadership was poised to make a difference.
Bibire then solicited the support of all stakeholders in achieving success.
