Ojukaye’s Case: Appeal Court Adjourns Indefinitely
The Special Appeal
Court Panel set up by the President of the Appeal Court to hear the bail application of the embattled former Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, Mr. Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, has indefinitely adjourned the matter.
The court was expected to sit on Monday to hear the bail application of the embattled former Chairman of Asalga who has been incarcerated for over two months.
However, at the resumption of the day’s sitting, members of the special appeal court panel headed by Justice Sidi Bage did not show up uptill 9am when the court clerk came up to announce the adjournment to all the parties involved in the matter following an application from the wife of the deceased through her counsel Mike Ozikhome, SAN.
The Tide learnt that the indefinite adjournment was not unconnected to the alleged application filed by the wife of late Soberekon Smart against the president of the Court of Appeal challenging the constitution of the Special Appeal Panel to hear the bail application of Mr Ojukaye.
The Tide further learnt that the alleged application was filed on the 1st July, 2016 and to be served to the president of Court of Appeal in Abuja and members of the Special Appeal Court Panel.
Reacting to the development, counsel to the state government, Godwin Obla (SAN) expressed disappointment on the development. He said he was not aware of the situation adding that they were prepared to argue their matter in the court.
