Ojukaye Faces Fresh Charges
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and former Chairman, Asari-Toru Local Government Area in Rivers State, Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, has been slammed with fresh five-count charge bordering on the alleged murder of two persons.
He is now charged with the alleged murder of one Iminabo Dokubo, and attempted murder of Ipalibo Jackson, among other related issues before a High Court in Port Harcourt.
Ojukaye was not, however, in court to take his plea, as the prisons authorities, in a letter to the court, said he was sick.
But the Rivers State Acting Chief Judge, Justice Adama Inyie Iyayi-Lamikanra, who presided over the case after hearing the charges against the accused, issued a warrant ordering the Port Harcourt Prisons to produce the accused in court, today, to answer questions on the fresh charges.
She, therefore, adjourned hearing in the case to today to enable the accused take his plea.
The Tide recalls that the Court of Appeal will also, today, entertain application for bail of the accused.
However, one of Ojukaye’s lawyers, Barrister Ken Aswuete, has said that his client had not been served the fresh charges preferred against him by the state government.
He lamented that his client, who had been standing trial for the murder of one Smart Soberekon during the April 11, 2015 elections, had been remanded in prison custody for over a month.
