Wikki Tourists coach
Abdu Maikaba has said the race for this year’s Nigeria league championship will be very close.
Wikki is top of the league table with 47 points from 27 matches, ahead of closest rival Enugu Rangers only by virtue of having a better goals difference.
Rivers United is third in the standings on 44 points.
The chances of fourth-placed Kano Pillars with 42 points and champions Enyimba on 40 points can also not be dismissed.
“No one can actually predict the winner of the league this season because it is really a very close contest so far,” Maikaba told AfricanFootball.com
“Last season, we narrowly lost out on continental football to Nasarawa United because they scored two more goals than us.
“With nine rounds of matches to be played, we now have to remain focused so as to achieve our ambition of being crowned champions.”
Maikaba’s Wikki is also in the runningfor a league and cup double as they face second-tier league side Crown FC for a place in the semi-finals of the Federation Cup today.
