NGO Gives Scholarships To 41 Indigent Students
An NGO, Ugo Igbo-Ukwu
Foundation, has offered scholarships to 41 indigent youths in Anambra.
Presenting the awards at the 12th anniversary of the foundation in Ekwulobia, Anambra, the founder of the NGO, Mr Barth Nwibe, said that the gesture was aimed at building educational capacity of the beneficiaries.
The beneficiaries, currently studying in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions, also received grants and instructional materials from the organisation.
Nwibe said the beneficiaries had distinguished themselves during a competitive examination conducted by the foundation.
He also expressed concern over the rising cases of examination malpractices in schools.
According to him, examination malpractices destroy self-confidence in youths and make them believe that they cannot pass examinations on their own.
He urged parents and teachers to discourage their children and students from patronising what he termed magic and special examination centres.
“Every child needs good education and not mere certificate to be able to unlock and bring to fruition all his or her potentials.
“If we encourage the spirit of hard work through scholarships, they will grow up to be better citizens and become more useful to the society.”
Nwibe noted that the scholarship grants and instructional materials presented to the beneficiaries would spur them and direct their attention to hard work.
Earlier, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the foundation, Dr Gabriel Mbah, thanked Nwibe for his continued support to the education of children in the past 12 years.
Mbah also commended the efforts of the state government towards ensuring that youths received quality education.
