A 20 years old Abigail
Ichoku, from Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, recently achieved a rare academic feat, as she bagged a first class honours degree in Law at the Coventry University, England, United Kingdom.
Ichoku, who is presently a student at the Nigeria Law School, returned home with her prestigious certificate, after her graduation in the UK to the warm embrace of family and friends.
She disclosed in an interview with The Tide, that she nurtured the dream of coming out with flying colours in her legal studies, even  before she left the shores of Nigeria to the U.K, and she was able to achieve the feat through a dint of hardwork.
Apart from creating a niche for herself as an exceptional student, Abigail’s laurel also made her a worthy Rivers, nay Nigerian ambassador, having graduated with a first class degree in a class of 300 students.
Abigail Ichoku, who dedicated her certificate to God, said her dream is to be a judge in Nigeria to “contribute immensely in the administration of justice in the country”.
She also expressed a deep sense of gratitude to her parents for their encouragement and benevolence which availed her the opportunity of her legal studies.
Commenting on why she opted to study law rather than any other discipline of study, Abigail said her interest in law was spurred by the “legal anointing” she received from the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Justice Kate Abiri, at the Port Harcourt International Airport.  She recalled; “the Bayelsa Chief Judge, Justice Abiri, who was my father’s classmate in the university, asked me what I wanted to study in the university, I was undecided on that then, so I told her I don’t know, then she advised me to study law and gave me her legal blessing, that became a spark in my life”.
The first class UK law graduate who described, Justice Abiri as her role model said she was particularly fascinated by her outspokenness and passion for legal practice.
It could be recalled that Abigail Ichoku, also emerged the best graduating student at Macdonald Memorial Secondary School, Port Harcourt, where she  had her A level studies.
Speaking to The Tide in an interview, her father, Barr. Emeka Choku, said he was deeply impressed by his daughter’s achievement.  Ichoku, a Port Harcourt based legal practitioner, said the penchant of the Ichoku family to study law dates back to the effort of the patriarch of the family, the late Chief Isaiah Ichoku, a Customary Court officer, who sold his land to train his son, Justice F.N.N. Ichoku, (rtd) a former Chief Judge of Rivers State.
Abigail’s eventual call to bar as a lawyer, will add to the denizen of lawyers in the Ichoku family, that had produced over 14 lawyers.
