Muslim faithful have again
been enjoined to always imbibe the spirit of peace, love and unity as enshrined in the Holy Koran.
The Chairman, League of Imans and Islamic Scholars in Rivers State, Shielk Abubakar Dan Asabe, made the call at the Arewa Consultative Forum South-South EiI-el-filtri celebration at the Nigerian Prison Playground, Port Harcourt, Wednesday.
Asabe said without peace, there would be no progress and justice, pointing out that observing the 30 days of Ramadan fasting as ordained by the Almighty creator in the Koran will bring about righteousness, self-reliance, perseverance, tolerance and peace.
According to him, Islam preaches unity and endurance, especially when people come together, adding that it was in obedience to the command of Allah to fast, and also stressed the significance of the fasting.
The Islamic cleric condemned violent killings and terrorism in the country, saying it was not the teaching of the Koran, and against Islamic practice, and called on those in the unwholesome behaviour to stop forthwith.
Also speaking to newsmen on the sideline of the celebration, the Chairman, Arewa Consultative Forum, South-South, Usman Ibrahim Wada, said the forum, as a socio-cultural organsiation, joined to celebrate the annual Eil-el-friltri celebration to mark the end of the 30 days Ramadan fasting.
Wada noted that the ceremony was a period of equality where all classes of persons both men, women and children come together and pray.
