Following interpreta
tions of Senator Tinubu’s witty battle with her Kogi-West counterpart, Senator Dino Melaye recently, the representative of the Lagos-Central Senatorial District, Oluremi Tinubu, last week equivocally stated that her actions did not in any way mean setting a pace for women nor championing any cause for women. Addressing members of the Lagos State House of Assembly from Lagos Central and members of the APC caucus as well as some party leaders during a solidarity visit on her at the National Assembly Complex Abuja, Senator Tinubu explained that she only stood in her place with every right to defend it in the event of any encroachment.
She also denied sponsoring women groups to protest on her behalf against Melaye, stating that she had given her best to her constituency in five years, a reason she alleged, inspired the protest that have trailed the verbal assault on her.
In her words, “I didn’t give any body any money, I don’t have N80m in my personal salary account in the Senate and I don’t think if I have any other savings I would want to use it to mobilise women to protest. What about the investment we have put into politics? How much has that done for this country?” Tinubu noted.
Tinubu had accused Melaye of assaulting her verbally during an executive session of the Senate last week Tuesday, an allegation Melaya had however, denied, claiming instead that Tinubu insulted him.
Meanwhile, Senator Tinubu who had already petitioned the IGP claiming that her life was under threat, by Dino Melaye has also announced her resolve to set behind her whatever transpired between her and her Kogi-West counterpart at the floor of the Senate house courtesy of her personality as a Christian. Hear her, “as a Christian, I’ve forgiven Melaye”.
She therefore, expressed her appreciation to all the Nigerian women who rose up; the women rights group who were calling, showing concerns and conducting press conferences.
