Two diligent staff of
Ahoada West Local Government Council, Mrs Bridget Dickson and Mr Peterson Ngochims, have been rewarded for emerging as most regular and punctual staff.
Announcing the award at a meeting with the council staff, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the council, Hon Jerry Akuru, said the gesture was aimed at encouraging discipline and dedication to duty.
Akuru, who did not announce the monetary value of the award said while his administration would continue to promote hardwork, it would in the same vein punish indolent staff.
The CTC boss who described the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike as one of the most workers’-friendly governors in the country, promised to imbibe the same spirit.
He urged the leadership of Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in the area to galvanise a diligent workforce and assured that he would do everything within his reach to attend to their welfare. On their salary arrears, he promised to relay their message to the governor.
Akuru also stressed the need for peace and security and urged misguided youths to embrace the amnesty programme of Governor Nyesom Wike.
He commended Wike for the improved security in the state which he said was as a result of high level of attention he accords to security issues.
Earlier, the NULGE boss in the area, Nathan Jikume, thanked the council boss for the meeting, stressing that it had afforded the workers opportunity to express their feelings.
Jikume described Akuru as an outstanding chairman in view of the seriousness he attached to official duties, noting that most council chairmen were hardly found in their offices.
He had pleaded with the council boss to look into the one month salary arrears owed staff of the council.
