KFN To Engage Athletes With Competitions

The Karate Federation of Nigeria (KFN) has said that the body would engage athletes with competitions to keep them in shape in spite of South Africa’s cancellation of the UFAK Championships.
The President of the KFN, Donatus Agu-Ejidike, made the disclosure in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.
Agu-Ejidike said that KFN planned to conduct series of competitions in place of the Union of Africa Karate Federations (UFAK) Senior Championships.
The UFAK senior championships was scheduled to hold from July 15 to July 17 in Durban, South Africa but has been cancelled due to lack of funds by the host.
KFN held its trials ahead of the UFAK champion-ships in May and no fewer than 31 athletes were selected.
Agu-Ejidike said that KFN planned to conduct championships in Kano, Kogi and Lagos states to engage the athletes.
“The South African body informed us last week that it could no longer host due to lack of funds. We will continue to wait till another country indicates interest.
“Before then, we are planning to organise a competition in Kano, though, we are still on it; we have the Japanese Cup in Lagos and another in Kogi in September.
“We do not want our athletes to be idle, that is why we are planning to organise these competi-tions,’’ he said.
