Archbishop, Province of Niger Delta and Bishop, Diocese of Niger Delta North Most Rev. Ignatius C.O. Kattey has been honoured with the Platinum Award for Credence as African Golden Personality of the year 2016.
Kattey, the Dean Emeritus, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), was also inducted into the Nelson Mandela Golden Award of Integrity and Transparency Hall of Fame.
The award, was presented by the African Youth Parliament at the Chapel of the Ascension, St. John’s Campus, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt.
In his acceptance speech, Kattey said it was no longer news that the world is in crises, noting that virtually every other nation was passing through turbulent times ranging from revolution, draught, famine, invasion, war to insurgency, terrorism, militancy, earthquake, political killings and youth restiveness arising from high level of unemployment and disobedience to Biblical principle, which, he said, are not only unprecedented but also taking chunks of human population in every prevailing circumstance.
Kattey pointed out that in times like these, humanity must return to God in prayer and fasting.
Said he: “we must have the burden to stand for truth against evils of our times. Let no tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, peril or killings separate us from the love of God”.
Kattey, who expressed gratitude to the African Youth Parliament for the honour, stressed that for the overall objective of promoting peace and sustaining development within Africa to be achieved, there must be a re-orientation and building of confidence among the youth.
Presenting the award, the leader of the six-man delegation of African Youth Parliament, Mr. Stephane Junior Liloue, stated “after proper secutiny and clinical analysis of the achievements of the awardee in giving direction and aspiration to the youth, the African Youth Parliament selected him for the award.
He said, “our actions whether good or bad are like a smoke that cannot be suppressed. However discrete we are, our actions or inactions will find us out because whatever a man does in life echoes till eternity”.
The African Youth Parliament (AYP) is a continent-wide network of young leaders, peace builders and social activists from 50 African countries working to promote and advocate for youthful solution to Africa’s development challenges.
