A former president of
the Nigeria Wushu Kungfu Federation (NWKF), Ojo Adelusi, yesterday called for total overhaul of sports federations after the 2016 Rio Olympics.
Adelusi said in an interview with newsmen in Lagos that it was necessary to conduct elections into the bodies to make them relevant.
“There is therefore the need to overhaul the federation because many of them are non-functional.
“‘Overuling would be a major step that could develop the various sport federations and bring them at par with their counterparts worldwide.
“There is the need to ensure that only officials with passion and determination to develop their federation were elected to occupy positions,’’ the former president said.
He said proactive and committed board members should be elected to bring about significant changes to the bodies.
Adelusi noted that there was dearth of activities in most of the sports federations which had affected their development, stressing that such federations need passionate administrators to generate desired result.
“More importantly, incoming officials must be ready to give money and time, entice sponsors, visit associations and carry fans along to achieve greatness,’’ he said.
Adelusi advised the associations to also organise national and international competitions, seminars and workshops.
