Facts About Fever

A Fever is an elevation
of body temperature above normal. The Natural Remedies Encydopedia (six edition) said “fever is not a disease but a sign that an infection or disease is present. Fevers are common in a wide variety of disease, from mild to severe.
Symptoms:
• The symptoms of fever include headache, flushed face, body aches, nausea, little or no appetite and sometimes diavihea or vomiting. Skin may be warm with some perspiration or hot and dry.
• The elevated temperature is an effort by the body to burn out infection and the perspiration helps eliminate toxins. Therefore, a partial fever maybe helpful to the body infighting the infection.
• If the fever does not get too high, let it run its course. Many enzymes, antibodies and white blood cells responses are better during slightly elevated temperatures.
• Normal temperatures is generally considered to be within a range of 97 to 99 F, but it can vary among individuals. If it is 100’F or above, (it is fever. A fever therefore is destined as body temperature above 98.6f measured orally or 99.8f measured from the rectum.
• One should not have undue concerns unless the body temperature rises above 102’f in adults and 103’f in children. Then give a tepid bath and call a doctor immediately. Most fevers never go above 102f and most last only for a few days.
• When body temperature is not more than 5 above normal, it does not completely interfere with body functions but levels above 105f and dangerous. At 106f, convulsions are common, at 108f, irreversible brain damage frequently results.
• Fevers help destroy the bacteria and virus. But fevers in an infant or small child needs special care to avoid seizures.
• Keep in mind that the fever is not the infection; the infection must be health as well as the fever.
• Putting too many clothes on a child can actually cause a fever.
• If feverish flu-like symptoms keep recurring: in children, this might indicate diabetes and in teenagers and adults, Epstein-Barr Virus.
• During the fever, if it gets to high (above 102f in adults or 103f in children, immediately  immerse the body in tepid water to lower the temperature. If it then goes above contact a doctor.
• When signs of fever are gone, be sure to prevent chilling and then eat easily digested foods including soy bean milk, baked white potatoe, natural brown rice and very ripe bananas.
