DSS Officer’s Death: Two Docked
Two suspects, Gospel Lloyd and Obinna Emmanuel, have been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate Court in Port Harcourt for alleged murder of an agent of the Department of State Services in Rivers State.
Gospel and Obinna are accused of killing Garry Jonathan Oyagiri of the DSS on March 18th.
The alleged crime occurred in Obagi in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area on the eve of the legislative rerun elections in Rivers State.
According to the charges, the DSS alleged that the accused persons attacked Garry Jonathan Oyagiri with firearms and machetes, leading to his death.
However, counsel to the accused persons, Martina Okpebie, in her argument, insisted that the Magistrate Court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case because of the weight of the charges.
After listening to both prosecution and defence counsel, Chief Magistrate B.M.F. Jamabo, adjourned the matter to August 11, 2016, to seek the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution.
Meanwhile, at least, three people were at the weekend, killed in a fresh violent attack in Omoku, headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State by unknown gunmen.
This is coming barely a week after cultists and criminals voluntarily surrendered their arms to embrace the amnesty offer of the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike.
The Tide investigations revealed that unknown gunmen stormed the venue of a burial ceremony in a white Hilux van, shooting sporadically into the crowd.
An eyewitness, who confirmed the incident, mentioned Chukwukadibia Dike and Charley Innocent as names of the victims killed in the attack.
The eyewitness told The Tide that the third victim was yet to be identified, adding that security has been beefed-up in the area.
He said: “They were about five of them, and they were heavily armed. I was on the other side of the place for burial when they alighted from a white Hilux truck, and started shooting. We don’t know whether they have targets but they were shooting anyhow.”
Similarly, two people were shot dead at Bara-Oi-Bara community in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The Tide learnt that unknown gunmen had invaded the community, and shot dead their targets, leaving their bodies riddled with bullets.
