Court Remands Man, 27, For Rape Attempt

Magistrate, over by Esther A. Okere has remanded a 27 year-old man in prison custody for an alleged attempted rape.
The accused, Chinnasor Sunday (M) 27, is standing trial on two count charge bordering on attempted rape and assault before a Port Harcourt Senior Magistrate with charge sheet number 1450C/2016.
The prosecuting police officer, Inspector  Edwin Nwinam told the court  that the accused on the 19th day of July, 2016 at St. John’s Bus Stop, Aba Road, Port Harcourt, in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District, did attempt to rape one Beauty Nwipinah (F) by holding and forcing her down.
The police prosecutor further alleged that the accused, Chinnasor Sunday on the same date, time and place in the afore said Magisterial District, did unlawfully assault one Beatrice Nwipinah (F) by pushing her down which caused her bleeding in her nose.
He further alleged that the accused committed an offence punishable under section 359 and 355 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Vol.II Laws of Rivers State 1999.
Ruling on the matter, the presiding Senior Magistrate Court II, Esther A. Okere ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody, ordering that the case file be forwarded to DPP for legal advice and adjourned the case to 2nd of August, 2016 for DPP’s advice.
