Business Operators Lament Low Sales At PH Airport

Business operators
at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, have decried the low level of business activities at the Airport.
They blamed the situation on the state of affairs in the airport, saying that until the re-model activity is completed, business operations can not be as before.
A ticket agent, Mr Rufus Odili, who spoke with The Tide Wednesday at the airport said passengers in flow are discouraging judging from what it was before the exercise.
He noted that before now,  several landings were recorded in the airport, thereby encouraging booming business activities at the airport.
Odili said the few arrivals that were witnessed were not enough to boost business in the area.
He recalled that before the Federal Government stated the re-modeling exercise some seven years ago, local business operators were trooping the area for several business reasons.
Another business operator, who runs an eatery, Mrs Dele Chidi, said the sales are too low compared with the normal sales before the Federal Government’s directives.
She noted that they now depend on Okada operators and other lower class of people for their daily sales as some of their big customers who patronize them are hardly sighted in the place again.
Chidi, who lamented how difficult it is to operate in such environment, called on the Federal Government to expedite action in order to assuage the suffering of business people operating within the Airport.
She recalled how local farmers used to make brisk business during each corn season, hinting that this year was too bad a business year.
Others also pleaded with the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom  Wike to help and show more governments’ presence in the area, so as to encourage business activities at the airport.
