The Rivers State Gover
nor, Chief Nyesom Wike has declared  that  no level of political blackmail will stop the state  government  from fighting crime and maintaining  security  in the  state.
This is as the governor also swore-in three caretaker committee chairmen at the Government House, Port Harcourt, at the weekend.
The chairmen  include, Hon. Jerry Akuru  for Ahoada-West,  Engr. Basoeni Lolomari for Asari-Toru and Pastor Ago Obu of Degema local government areas.
These are the last three local government caretaker committees to be constituted by the governor.
He had earlier  constituted caretaker committees for 20 local government areas.
Wike said that nobody was above the law, pointing out that anyone who contravenes the law will face its full weight.
The governor charged the caretaker committee chairmen to pay salaries and take necessary steps to promote security.
He advised  the caretaker committee chairmen of Degema and Asari-Toru to work with security agencies to stem the tide of kidnappings in their communities.
The governor  called on  the  council  chairmen  to serve their people  diligently,  using their respective appointments as the route to political  relevance.
He noted: “These appointments can make or mar your political careers.  If you succeed in serving your people, they will always call upon you to serve again.
“But if you place personal consideration above the people, they will reject you. My instruction to you is that you first pay salaries, and then, you go ahead and enhance security”.
