The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has called on Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) members to steer clear of social vices, as his administration would not spare anybody involved in crime or cultism irrespective of party affiliation or connections.
He gave the warning when members of the state executive of the PDP led by its Chairman, Bro. Felix Obuah, paid a solidarity visit to him on Monday in Government House, Port Harcourt.
Wike said the administration is poised to rid the state of crime and all forms of social vices, saying, “Our position as a government is zero tolerance for crime. We will not hesitate to confiscate or destroy any property linked with crime and so our party members must avoid anything that will smear their name in order not to give opportunity to the opposition.”
The governor reiterated the resolve of the administration to raise security of lives and property in the state, “Rivers State must be peaceful so business and investors can come in”, he stressed.
He lauded the party executive and members for remaining steadfast and ensuring that the party won all previous elections, pointing out that “you have shown commitment and seriousness and that is why we are getting results.”
Wike passed “a vote of confidence” on the state executive for its hard-work and for remaining glued to the vision and goals of the party.
He, however, urged them not to rest on their oars ahead the re-run polls slated for July 30, assuring them that the current crisis rocking the national leadership of the party was part of restructuring, as the party was sure to bounce back stronger and more united.
Wike used the visit to announce the readiness of the party to participate in the July 30 re-run elections in the remaining eight local governments of Andoni, Bonny, Khana, Gokana, Tai, Eleme, Degema, and Asari-Toru.
Calling on the members to start mobilisation ahead the polls, the governor expressed confidence that the party would sweep the remaining results.
According to him, “Rivers people will stand by the PDP. This state is a traditional PDP state.”
On his part, Chairman of the party, Bro. Felix Obuah lauded the governor for his developmental strides and for the successful hosting of the PDP National Convention.
While pledging loyalty and support to the governor’s vision and plans for the state, the PDP state executive passed a vote of confidence on the governor for the way he has administered the state in the past one year.
In the words of Obuah, “You have performed beyond expectation so the entire PDP executive pass a vote of confidence in your administration.”
The state PDP chief used the visit to solicit for inclusion of party members in the inspection of state projects, as he informed the governor of the planned formal inauguration of the executive and sought for upgrading of facilities for smooth running of the state secretariat.
