Ahly Drops Keeper Ekramy After Costly Errors
Goalkeeper Sherif
Ekramy has paid for recent errors by being dropped from Al Ahly’s squad for their Egyptian Premier League clash against Al Ittihad on Sunday.
In what will be Ahly’s penultimate league match of the 2015/16 season (having already clinched the title) they will choose between Ahmed Adel Abdel-Moneim, Mosaad Awad and Ahmed Rabie El-Sheikh to keep goals, with Ekramy left out in the cold completely.
This comes after the ‘keeper was blamed for the Red Devils’ 2-1 home loss to ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast this past week.
Ekramy made a howler of an error to concede the decisive goal in the match and singled out by coach Martin Jol as one of the main reasons for their defeat.
The Dutchman has also added that Ahly needs to go into the market and sign a new gloves-man.
“Ekramy hasn’t done his role in the game. ASEC scored their two goals from their two shots on target,” Jol commented after the defeat to the Mimosas.
“We are looking to reinforce the goalkeeper position as well as other positions,” he added.
