Agriculturist Makes Case For Cash Crops Cultivation
An agriculturist, Mrs
Amadi Nnamdi, has said that the resuscitation of Cocoa growing and other cash crops will revive the nation’s ailing economy.
The agriculturist made the comment in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt on Monday.
Nnamdi noted that crude oil price may not go up as to revive the country’s weak economic status judging from the current happening in the international market.
He said cocoa as well as other cash crops could play a leading role in the system, if given a better attention.
Admitting the rigorous process in the system, he said upon achievement, it would expand the country’s export base and increase national income.
He urged the government to double its plans and include cocoa and other cash production on its exclusive list as to enable it achieve a faster result.
The farmer was of the view that the era of seeing farmers as poor people were gone as they are now drivers of the economy of the world.
He also stated that cash crop should be as flowers at homes so as to have it in abundance in the country.
He pointed out that, the only way to fight food security was to involve all in the business of farming and live stock.
On the side of parents, he advised them on the importance of encouraging their wards/children in agriculture initiatives, saying that it is benefitial.
