Despite recent indications that a Serbian has been favoured to be the next helmsman of the Super Eagles, Vice-President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Seyi Akinwunmi, has disclosed that Salisu Yusuf is in pole position to be named the country’s new coach.
Yusuf was given temporary charge of the Super Eagles for two friendlies against Mali and Luxembourg last month.
He won both games for Nigeria to rise six spots in the FIFA rankings.
“Salisu Yusuf is sure of getting the (Eagles) job ahead of any other person,” Akinwunmi said at a forum organised by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) in Ibadan at the weekend.
“He’s good coach and has a bright future with the Super Eagles.
“He is a level-headed coach and he is the kind of coach who could lead the Super Eagles to success in the nearest future.”
The new Eagles coach will lead the country for the qualifying tournament for the 2018 World Cup beginning in October.
