Tam-George Plans LGAs Town Hall …To Sensitise Citizens On Govt Programmes
The Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Dr Austin Tam-George, says the ministry will soon embark on town hall meetings across the 23 local government areas of the state to sensitise the rural populace on the policies and programmes of government and to draft effective feedback from the people to enhance congruence in governance.
The commissioner said this during a solidarity visit by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Okrika Ward 8, Okrika Local Government Area, Rivers State, in his office in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
Tam-George, thanked the PDP stalwarts for the visit, and assured that he will not disappoint Rivers State as the commissioner for Information and Communications.
The commissioner disclosed that one of the fundamental objectives of the Governor Nyesom Wike administration was to work with community-based organisations to bring governance closer to the people.
Tam-George urged the PDP faithful to always abhor violence and respect communal bond to promote peace and development at the grassroots, and emphasised the need to respect differences in choice of party affiliation.
Leader of the group and Coordinator of PDP in Ward 8, Mr. Iyalla S. George, described the appointment of Tam-George, a seasoned communication scholar as a “round peg in a round hole”, and pledged the loyalty of the PDP Ward 8, to the Wike’s administration.
He expressed confidence in the capability of the commissioner to discharge his official duties as Rivers State chief spokesman.
Also speaking, the spokesman of the group, Engr. Tamunoibime T. George, described Governor Wike as a pragmatic leader, who has achieved a lot in the state, especially in terms of infrastructural development.
He urged Tam-George to continue to bring his wealth of experience in his duties to “crack down on the rampaging propagandist” hell bent on running down the Wike’s administration.
