NIESV Advocates Land Reforms
The Nigeria Institute
of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV), has asked the Federal Government to approve the Presidential Technical Committee report on Land Reforms and Council of State proposals on Land Administration to bridge the housing gap.
NIESV said this demand was pivotal in addressing the housing challenge facing the council.
The institute recalled that it had earlier made a presentation to the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatude Fashola.
The President, NIESV, Dr Bolarinde Pantunola-Ajayi, who stated this in a media parley, said that government has to address a major constraint in land administration despite the acute housing shortage.
The institute stated further that reviewing and enacting title registration laws were long overdue if any meaningful feat is to be achieved in bridging the over 17 million housing deficit in the country.
It was gathered that NIESV, had in a proposal to Fashola, pointed out that the Land Use Act poses challenges to land administration and housing in the country.
The surveyors used the opportunity to appeal to the minister to approve the regulations as proposed by the Presidential Technical Committee on Land Reforms and the National Council of State, which they said will make it easier for the titling and registering of land both in the urban and rural areas.
