New NUAS President Assures On Students’ Welfare
The newly-elected
President of the National Union of Asari-Toru Students (NUAS), Comrade William West Biokpo has pledged to pursue programmes that will improve the conditions of ASALGA students.
Speaking shortly after the inauguration of the new executives in Port Harcourt, Comrade Biokpo said that his administration will ensure that ASALGA students in higher institutions get their bursaries when due, while a mass literacy campaign will be organised across communities in the local government areas.
He also said that the new executive will work against cultism and other anti-social behavior in all ramifications and urged for the support of the students to enable the executive succeed.
Also speaking, the out-gone President of the union, Comrade Okanaye West, advised the incoming executive to be transparent in the discharge of its duties.
He also used the occasion to list some of his achievements in office which are, ensuring regular bursary payments to students of Asari-Toru origin, sensitisation against HIV/AIDS in Kalabari National College (KNC) and the drafting and adoption of the union’s constitution.
The event was attended by a cross section of dignitarties from the area.
