Makarfi Clears Three For Edo PDP Primaries
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the distinguished chairman-ship of Senator Ahmed Makarfi, yesterday, concluded the screening of candidates for the Edo State gubernatorial elections.
Makarfi, who made this known, yesterday, listed the candidates screened and cleared as Pastor Ize-Iyamu, Solomon Edebiri and Matthew Iduoriyekemwen.
Consequently, the PDP caretaker committee chairman issued certificates of clearance to all the three aspirants to enable them participate in the forthcoming primaries of the party for the Edo State governorship elections.
The Tide gathered that all desperate attempts by the embattled former party Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, to lure the aspirants and further cause divisions suffered a major setback as the party in Edo State, just like the other 36 chapters and all aspirants, ignored him and aligned with the leadership of the PDP recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Speaking to newsmen shortly after handing over the certificates of clearance to the aspirants, yesterday, Makarfi, stated that the era of imposition was over as the party moves towards entrenching internal democracy.
The Tide investigations show that barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Peoples Democratic Party may sweep the polls, owing to the lacklustre performance of Governor Adams Oshiomhole in his second term.
It was also learnt that if Edo State voters are to cast their ballot today, PDP may win with landslide because of the electorate’s disgust with the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government, which has plunged Nigerians into serious hunger and want, as the economy has completely collapsed.
Oshiomhole’s penchant for unsubstantiated allegations and consistent support to anti-Niger Delta policies may further worsen the plight of his party in the forthcoming elections.
