As pleasant reactions con
tinue to trail Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike’s developmental strides, a Port Harcourt based attorney, Barrister Chidi Woke at the weekend in Port Harcourt urged patience, unflinching support and cooperation with the governor in his “efforts at retrieving Rivers people from the nadir of socio-economic and political asphyxia in which they were enmeshed during the Rotimi Amaechi’s inglorious years”.
Speaking with selected media executives in his chambers, the legal luminary recalled how “Amaechi single-handedly took decisions and treated Rivers State as a conquered territory with no regard whatsoever to the beleaguered people of the state.”
He said while the Amaechi administration was a secluded one with a few circle of persons who did not know what needed to be done to provide good governance to the people and alleviate their anguish, Wike’s has been a corrective one.
Describing Governor Wike as very fantastic and a good ambassador of the legal profession, Woke noted that he (Wike) has been running an open administration by bringing issues to the public domain for contribution which he moulds into public opinion.
Said he: “Wike is a man that has very long ears and open mind to hear and listen and do, and correct things accordingly.”
On infrastructural development in the state, the attorney commended the Wike administration for opening up the roads hitherto abandoned by the previous administration and constructing new ones.
Woke also commended Governor Wike for addressing the problems of the judiciary in the state. “The judiciary was almost dead but no sooner he came than he addressed all the problems. Ever since the judiciary has remained what it is supposed to be. The judiciary is indeed having the benefit of his well doing because as a lawyer he knows what his colleagues need.”
He urged Rivers people to be patient with the governor as he sorts out things rather than being hypercritical of his actions adding that everybody has been enjoying the benefit of his administration so far.
“When he errs like every other human being, the best thing to do is to get him close and talk to him rather than embarrass ourselves in the public” he advised.
