IYC Tasks FG On National Reconciliation Committee
The President, Igbo Youth
Congress (IYC), Mr Bright Ezeocha, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to constitute a national reconciliation committee that would assist it to further foster unity and progress of the country.
Ezeocha made the plea in an interview with newsmen in Lagos while suggesting the way forward in the face of numerous ethnic challenges facing the country.
According to him, no change can be achieved in an atmosphere of disunity, divisions and violence.
“I want to urge the President to, as a matter of urgency, constitute a national reconciliation committee that will see to the reconciliation of various ethnic groups in Nigeria.
“Nigeria had been highly divided after the 2015 elections. I had expected the President to have taken the steps toward reconciliation after he had won the presidential election.
“As a father, I want to urge Mr President to bring everybody to a round table so that we can all unite and think the same way to move forward as one nation.
“We need to reconcile with one another. What we see around us: violence and militancy and comments on social media on issues- show sharp divisions in this country.
“We need to work together from the North to the South, from the West to the East- to move the country forward,” the Igbo youth leader said.
According to him, the change-mantra of President Buhari can only be achieved if everybody is carried along in the decision-making.
On the Federal Government planned dialogue with the Niger Delta Avengers,(NDA), Ezeocha urged the President to approach the process with sincerity and transparency.
“I don’t believe that any Nigerians or group will pick up arms against the government if they don’t believe in it. I want the Federal Government to dialogue with the NDA,” he said.
The youth leader also urged the Federal Government to embark on massive development of the Niger Delta region to curb agitations.
Ezeocha advised the President to study the reports of the previous national conferences and implement recommendations that would bring lasting solutions to the socio-economic, cultural and political challenges facing the country.
He said, “All that had been suggested in the reports either by Pro National Conference Organisations (PRONACO) or the 2014 National Conference organised by former President Goodluck Jonathan should be looked into.
