The Peoples Demo
cratic Party  (PDP) senatorial candidate for Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Hon. Olaka Wogu, has called on Ogoni stakeholders not to politicise the clean-up of Ogoniland and jeopardise Federal Government’s commitment to the implementation of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Report in the area.
The senatorial candidate who gave the charge while speaking with newsmen in Port Harcourt said Ogoni people really deserve speedy clean-up of their environment, considering the untold hardship they have experienced since the alleged degradation of their environment by the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC).
Wogu who congratulated the Ogonis on the flag-off of the clean-up  called on the Federal Government to speed up the exercise to reduce the suffering of the people.
He called for the inclusion of all stakeholders in the exercise irrespective of party affiliation, and interests, noting that the entire Niger Delta region needed thorough clean up for the safety of the people.
He commended the Rivers State Government for its commitment to the implementation of  the UNEP Report on the clean-up of Ogoniland, describing the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike as an astute leader who despite the tactical political gimmicks by some opposition politicians over the clean-up, still played an active role in the flag-off of the exercise by the Federal Government.
The Chairman of Ogoni Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, King Godwin Giniwa thanked Ogoni people for their maturity during the visit of President Buhari who was represented by his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo at the event.
He expressed the hope that, the Federal Government would speed up the clean-up before the expiration of the second year of the administration.
