Court Remands Police Officer Over Murder

trate, Court 11, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Esther A Okere (Esq) has remanded a servicing Police Officer, Cpl Nuhu Ayuba, 32 in prison custody for alleged extra judicial killing.
The accused person, Cpl Ayuba Nuhu was arraigned on two count charge bordering on alleged murder and shooting before Magistrate E. A. Okere with charge sheet No PMC/1225c/206.
The Police Prosecuting Officer, Inspector Godwin Nwwiam told the court that the accused Cpl Nuhu Ayuba and another at large on the 13/7/2015 at Igbo-Etche Road, Etche LGA within the Port Harcourt Magisterial District did conspire together with another to commit felony to wit murder.
The Police Prosecuting Officer further told the court that the accused and another at large on the same date and place in the afore said Magisterial District murdered one Saviour Johnson Umoh by shooting him at his right leg with service riffle which led to his death.
He averred that the accused allegedly committed an offence punishable under Section 324 and 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap. 37 Vol.11 Laws of Rivers State of Nigeria 1999.
Ruling on the Matter, Magistrate E.A. Okere (Esq) while declaring jurisdiction on the matter ordered that the accused person be remanded into prison custody while the case file be forwarded to the DPP for legal advice.
