Court Remands Murder Accused

nior  Magistrate Court in Rivers State, presided over by Mrs Helen Handy has remanded an accused person, Okoro Adoo,  a suspected killer of Youth president in Luawi community in Khana  Local Government Area of Rivers State, late Macfred  Barine in prison custody for lack of jurisdiction.
The accused was said to have on May 26, at Bien Gwara  community in Khana LGA allegedly  killed, Macfred Barine.
The accused was arraigned  on three court charge bordering  on murder and conspiracy on charge sheet number king 118342016.
The police prosecuting officer, Spuol Briggs A, who led the prosecution told the court that the accused  and others now at large on  May 26, 2016 at Bien Gwara community in Bori Magisterial  District, triable in Port Harcourt Magisterial District did conspire among themselves to commit  felony to wit: murder.  She further averred that the accused and others on the same date and place in the  aforesaid  magisterial district , triable  in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District allegedly murdered one Macfred Barine by shooting him with a gun which caused his death.
The police prosecuting  officer stated that the accused person committed an offence punishable under section 319 and 324 of the criminal code, 37, volume II laws of Rivers State, Nigeria 1999.
The accused did not take any plea on the charge brought against him.
Ruling on the matter, the presiding Senior Magistrate, Helen Handy, directed that the accused be remanded  into prison custody while the case file be forwarded to the DPP for legal advice. She, however, said the accused has the liberty  to seek his  bail at the High Court.
