Commissioner Inaugurates SHIS Committee

Commissioner for Health, Dr Theoplilus Odagme has inaugurated the technical committee to draft the State Health Insurance Scheme that would be functional in meeting up the health challenges of the people of the state.
Odagme said that the committee was given three weeks to examine the existing National Health Insurance documents/acts, from states that have implemented the scheme and charged it with the responsibility of preparing a draft document and nomenclature for the implementation of health insurance scheme in the state as well as come up with the roles the free medical care programme office of the ministry would play in the new scheme.
Odagme stated that the government needed to make a paradigm shift from the unrealistic free medical programme of the state considering the current economic reality in the country and the state in particular and urged the committee to produce a document that would suit the unigue nature of the state.
He further assured the committee that the government would provide the needed tools to aid the accomplishment of the task.
Responding on behalf of the committee, the Chairman, Dr Opubo Idoniboyeobu who is also the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Rivers State Ministry of Health, expressed gratitude to the commissioner and management of the ministry for finding them worthy to be members of the committee, promising that the committee will deliver on the mandate given them on record time.
Other members of the committee are Dr Vetty Agala-Secretary with Dr Anikara Atamunotoru, Dr Bright Ogbonda, Dr Okey Ibeabuchi, Mr Ebiokolo Williams and Barr. Dornu Barida Nwinang as members.
