President Muhammadu
Buhari, has urged the leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who have friends among the militants blowing oil installations in the oil-rich Niger Delta region to stop their campaign of destruction and work with the government.
The president made the plea on Friday, while breaking the Ramadan fast with leaders of APC at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said: “We are in a very difficult time. It is particularly bad . We have to organize ourselves and our constituencies. Tell them we are all in this together”.
The president revealed that the militants were deploying sophisticated technology to attack installations stressing that the issue has become a national problem.
Buhari explained that the technology which the militants used to go deep in to the waters and blow installations could not be described as small.
“For those of you who have friends either among the leadership or among the militants themselves, please beg them in the name of God Almighty to take it easy. We need to stabilize the economy to create employment”, he urged his guests.
He expressed regret that all these were happening at a time when the country was clamouring for more investments to improve the economy of the nation.
He said that the situation has become a source of agony  to him, while maintaining that the nation was facing tough time economically and in terms of security also.
While noting that no insurance company would be willing to insure installations that could later be blown up, the president said, even banks too would not also agree to embark on financing such installations, and stressed the need for the militants to sheathe  their swords in the interest of the nation.
