Attempted Murder: Court Remands Man

Magistrate Court in Rivers State presided over by Esther A. Okere has remanded in prison custody a 25year-old-man for alleged attempted murder.
The accused, Monday Ajoku of Rumuokparali in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state was arraigned on one count charge of murder on charge sheet no 1143C/2016.
The accused alleged to be a member of a dreaded cult group, Icelanders and had laid ambush against the victim, one Gift Laanwil (f) on 10/5/2016 on her way to a night vigil organised by the victim’s church.
It was further alleged that the victim was the accused ex-girl friend and had a child with him.
However, trouble started when the victim, Gift Laanwil discovered that the man whom she had a baby with belonged to a secret cult, (Icelanders) and decided to quit the relationship which caused the accused to lay ambush against her on that fateful day and cut her.
The prosecuting Police Officer Inspector Godwin Winam told the court that the accused, Monday Ajoku on the 11/5/2016 at about 003hrs at Rumuokparali in Port Harcourt Magistrate District did attempt to murder one Gift Laanwil (f) by inflicting deep machete cut on her neck and hand.
He averred that the accused committed an offence punishable under Section 320(1) of the Criminal Code Cap Laws of the Federation 2004.
