Activist Flays Planned Ejection Of Barracks’ Occupants
The Executive Direc
tor of Human Rights Alliance, Ken Atsuwete, has condemned the threat to eject more than 400 residents of Trans Amadi Police barracks in Oginigba community, Port Harcourt.
Mr Atsewete, who stated this in a statement made available to The Tide in Port Harcourt yesterday alleged that “the Paramount Ruler of Oginigba Community allotted all the land upon which the Trans-Amadi Police Station is currently sited to the Nigeria police, this allotment included all that portion/parcel of land behind the said police station now known as Trans Amadi, Police barracks.
He contended that the land which was occupied by members of the police community in the Trans Amadi Police barracks were legitimately acquired with payments made by residents of the barracks who have now given only one month to quit without proper consultation and discussion.
He alleged that the notices made reference to a letter credited to the IGP and noted that it confirmed their suspicion that he could be behind the notices.
He pointed out that apart from the police station and barrack community, no other persons could lay claim of ownership to the aforesaid land.
