Elijah Tana has said that preparations for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers must begin now.
The ex-Chipolopolo defender was speaking to Tidesports’ source in Zambia, saying the qualifiers would soon begin and preparations needed to start now if the team was to qualify.
“We can’t just be talking about qualifying, we need to start preparing now, qualifiers are just around the corner,” Tana said.
“We don’t need an expatriate coach; George is even more qualified than some expatriate coaches. He can even coach in Europe.
“So what can stop him from qualifying a team to the World Cup if he is well motivated?”
Speaking about the players, the legend added that there are capable players in Zambia and that they just need support.
“We have players that are capable, the fact that the government has challenged the players shows their willingness to support them,” adds Tana.
Zambia is among the 20 teams in the continent that made it to the third round of the World Cup qualifiers after beating Sudan 3-0 on aggregate.
The teams will be drawn into groups of four on June 24 that will play home and away fixtures with the group winners qualifying to the World Cup in Russia in 2018.
