Zamalek Sacks Coach McLeish
Latest reports suggest
Zamalek has parted ways with Alex McLeish.
The White Knights have reached the decision following a spate of poor results since the Scotsman’s arrival at the club.
McLeish has reportedly terminated his contract with Zamalek by mutual consent, three months after he was appointed as head coach of the club.
The Cairo Giants’ hired McLeish following Ahmed Hossam ‘Mido’s dismissal, in the hope that the former Birmingham City manager would turn their season around, but unfortunately he could not do so.
Zamalek has seen rivals Al Ahly stretch their lead atop the Egyptian Premier League following the team’s failure to achieve results and are now walking on a very thin thread to maintain a second-place finish in the league.
McLeish took charge of 10 matches in all competitions leading Zamalek to the group stages of the CAF Champions League, with an overall record of six wins, two draws and two losses.
However, the board led by President Mortada Mansour, is set to appoint his successor with Mohamed Helmy taking charge of the team as interim-manager until a new manager is announced.
McLeish is reportedly set to receive $60,000 (USD) compensation for the premature dismissal as he becomes the fourth manager to leave Zamalek this season after Jesualdo Ferreira, Marcus Paqueta and Ahmed Hossam ‘Mido’.
