Works Commissioner Warns Road Contractors
The Rivers State Works
Commissioner, Bethel Iheanyichukwu Harrison has condemned the on-going construction work on Ogbogoro Road, among others, threatening to sanction contractors doing shoddy work on carefully initiated projects of the state government.
The commissioner made the condemnation last Friday during an unscheduled inspection of road projects billed for commissioning by Governor Nyesom Wike as part of activities to mark his one year in office.
Harrison observed that the contractor handling the project, Solberg Engineering and Construction Company, was not working according to specifications and set standard for the job, adding that there was no re-enforcement on the job so far done.
“Ogbogoro project has a foundational fault, and should be corrected immediately,” he said.
He directed that the attention of the ministry’s Chief Resident Engineer should be drawn to the faults detected for necessary action to be taken.
The commissioner while inspecting the Eliozu-Oroigwe-Elimgbu, Rukpokwu-Rumuapu-Eneka, Igwuruta-Chokocho, SARS Link roads, respectively, expressed satisfaction on the level of job done, believing that they would be ready for commissioning before May 29.
Harrison also called on the contractors handling various road projects in the state to intensify the pace of work as the government will not accept any form of delay in accomplishing it’s desire to commission the projects before May 29.
